Dr. John Piper is one of the greatest Christian minds of this generation. In the following video, you will see his response to the question of tithing. Is tithing commanded for all Christians today?
Piper’s response is that tithing was part of the Mosaic law. We are not under that law anymore. So are not required to tithe. However, God loves a cheerful giver and we should be generous and give freely.
He opens his response with this verse:
Romans 7:4, 6: “You also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you might belong to another, to him who is raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. We are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not the old way of the written code.”
