At KAF, we believe that everyone is a leader. Every child is a leader, every staff member is a leader, every volunteer is a leader, and every donor is a leader. Another way to put it is that each of us is a minister or priest.

Leadership is not a position. You don’t need a position or title of authority to serve. Leadership is serving with the gifts and talents God gave you. Leadership is using your calling to positively influence the lives of others in your circle of influence.

The idea of having some be leaders and others as followers is archaic. In the area of our strengths and calling, we lead. The president of the United States is gifted and called to political leadership. However, he goes to church and has a pastor. In the church, the pastor, not the president leads. He also has a doctor. As far as his health is concerned, his doctor leads and coaches. He has a mechanic, electrician, and so forth. He could electrocute himself if he tried to lead with electrical problems in his house.

The point is that each of us is a leader and a follower at the same time. In the area of our calling, giftedness, and expertise, we naturally lead. In others, we humbly follow.

To us, leadership development is about helping people find their God-given calling and helping them to live it out to positively influence people in the world around them.
